Distinguishing Between Storefront, Curtain Wall and Window Wall Applications

Event Date: August 15, 2024
Time: 12:00 pm EST
Course Credit: 1 LU/HSW
Course Number: KNA_134

Course Description:

As construction methods and delivery requirements have changed to evolve and meet new demands, manufacturers now offer a wide array of framing options. Architectural aluminum framing systems can be broken down into several subcategories, including storefront framing, curtain wall, window wall, windows, entrances and more. While each shares some common characteristics, they are also quite different and designed for specific applications. This presentation focuses on these systems—storefront, curtain wall and window wall—and the unique features and characteristics of each, along with their advantages and disadvantages and examples of applications each is designed for. You will better understand the uniqueness of each system and how to select the correct one based on a specific project’s needs

Utilizing Window Wall Glazing Solutions for Performance and Versatility

Thursday, September 19th

Event Date: September 19, 2024
Time: 12:00 pm EST
Course Credit: 1LU/HSW
Course Number: KNA_120

Course Description:

With the recent increase in high-rise multifamily construction in urban areas, the utilization of a newer architectural system called “window wall” has grown. Window wall systems are installed slabto-slab and can be installed more economically than curtain wall systems, while still providing the performance required in a high-rise application. This presentation gives a proper understanding of the benefits and options available with window wall systems and how these systems are a great solution for multifamily projects and more.

The Value and Impact of Testing Standards and Codes in Division 8

Thursday, November 21st

Event Date: November 21, 2024
Time: 12:00 pm EST
Course Credit: 1 LU/HSW
Course Number: KNA_136

Course Description:

When a design team specifies a system for a commercial project, they want the assurance that the system will meet all expectations and perform as intended for generations. As part of the building envelope, architectural aluminum frames must maintain the energy efficiency of the building, ensure interior thermal comfort and occupant safety, keep air and water out and maintain the building’s integrity in the event of storms, intense winds and seismic movement. This presentation discusses all that goes into ensuring that architectural aluminum framing systems will perform as intended. We will review required tests, how they are determined, and how they impact building projects.
